Who could have imagined the progress Winter Park would make when it opened back in 1979 with a crumbling 1950’s era chalet and 13 kilometers of trails groomed with a snowmobile.
Today, thanks to 40 years of commitment from a dedicated community of Winter Park skiers and friends, our professional staff and volunteers now maintain and groom 100 km of trails with state of the art equipment.
Trail pass sales alone have never fully funded Winter Park’s operational and equipment needs. Over the years, your time, talent and financial gifts have made it possible to introduce countless people to Nordic skiing, develop youth ski programs, create the Lakeland Nordic Ski Team, purchase grooming equipment, renovate the chalet, build a skating pond and tubing runs, protect 3200 acres of the park with conservation and trail easements and purchase over 220 acres of key property on the trail system. Your support has made it all possible.
A ski area is made in the off season. Since you last visited Winter Park, the chalet has been freshly carpeted, improvements made to the trail system, 5 acres of key property acquired, and a major piece of equipment purchased. Winter Park’s new Mueller Tiller and Tractor will complement our aging Pisten Bully Snow Cat and two Gators. Winter Park’s ability to renovate icy snow and set firm skating decks with solid track has never been better.
We anticipate a great season, but looking to the future there is much to be done. A giving program is underway to support an upgrade to our overcrowded and aging chalet, prepare for the eventual replacement of our ten year old Pisten Bully and address other critical needs.
Please remember Winter Park as you plan your year end and 2020 charitable giving. With your gift of $250 or more to the Minocqua Winter Park Trail Fund, a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization, you will receive a limited edition Winter Park 40th Anniversary commemorative poster (three options to choose from).
